Synopsis

Allyrah travels to a foreign land, said to belong to the last community of people to wield magic. Though, it's not the magic that persuades her to leave her home and give up her comfortable life as Lady Allyrah of Calismere. It's the chance to teach art to children-a chance for her to experience another world. When she arrives, it's nothing like she expects. Verdanthran, a land with a name that means "lush and green," is actually barren and dry. It is a desert, home to the Sandwoken people, who live off the land and keep to themselves. As the heat bears down, the bugs crawl, and the sand sticks, Allyrah quickly regrets her decision. Solen, another teacher, is tasked to show her around the schoolhouse and introduce her to the children. As they get to know each other, he tells her of an ancient magic that feeds their land. Maybe there is more color beneath this desert than meets the eye? But something is strange and pieces are missing. Her newfound love for the people cannot stop her from being pulled into their dark mystery. Allyrah must act quickly when students from the schoolhouse start disappearing one by one.
