Mmuo Nkata is a unique exploration of the Igbo language through the words of Dibia Agbara. In this metaphysical realism, Ada, a young girl of 13, consumed by an ancestral need to understand the story of the tree of knowledge, approaches the 78-year-old Dibia for answers. Ancient words are revealed to innocent ears, taking the reader on a figurative journey through the Igbo worldview. Ada encounters layers of meaning in a simple sound, thereby revealing the fundamental nature of asusu Igbo. Mmuo Nkata is as much an unmasking of Igbo consciousness, as it is a re-veiling of primal linguistic codes.
