Synopsis
Three warring nations seek the ancient relic that will control her. But only one person can wield its power. Impossibly gifted, elite warriors belong to the nations, but their power comes with a price. An ancient relic can control them. Desa is one of those warriors. Faster than lightning, she can outpace any rival. Good with a sword, she’s better with a knife. Yet she has little freedom. Sworn to the king, she can barely leave the palace or its city. And those walls are suffocating. But when the king is killed in an uprising, Desa is banished. For the first time, she can hunt the relic rather than wait for someone else to find it first. The most obvious danger is the band of northern warriors who have crossed forbidden boundary lines, near where the relic was buried a thousand years before. Disguised as a mercenary, Desa joins the northerners in their search. But a startling connection links her to their leader. They can each predict what the other will do in battle. Will they betray each other or forge a lasting partnership? For another, older threat emerges. A man who has long deceived Desa. He is the very man who mentored and trained her. If he succeeds in finding the relic, he will destroy her and any others who stand in his way.
