Josh, a teenage chess nerd accidentally releases a demon-mage from the underworld and is swept into a magical realm where he must undo the mage's spells to free his Dad and a city turned to stone.Josh had never been in Mom's office before. Leather-bound books crowded shelves alongside skulls, antique pistols, and half-melted candles - just what you'd expect from an ex-god of the underworld. Mom had finally promised to tell him everything when she got home from her trip - about the gaps in his memory, how he got the ragged scars across his throat, and most importantly, what happened to Dad.Before she can tell him, a demon from her past chases Josh and his older brother Pete into a magical realm. There, in a world on the brink of collapse, the brothers and a teenage girl named Dandelion, discover Josh's dad trapped in a city turned to stone. The only hope for Dad, the teenagers, and the realm, lies within The Throat, a prison whose cells dangle into the underworld. There, Josh must remember who he is and dare to act on it.
