Synopsis

Upper Young Adult - speculative fiction, with elements of bullying, clean romance, action, supernatural themes/fantasy, time travel and humor. Brief synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Lily Destin, a spy for the global company Vestige, struggles to overcome her awkwardness and prove her worth. Facing bullying and the threat of having her memories erased if she fails, Lily embarks on a mission to the seventeenth century to find Jasper Dompierre-St-Martin, the last keeper of the powerful Arbre de Vie pendant. Living with her "uncle" on ARK1, Lily encounters two suitors, Marc Coupier and the mysterious "Mr. Flea," while competing with two rival societies - the Sentinels and the Relic Hunters - to find Jasper. As she grapples with her mission, Lily begins to question Vestige's motives and has visions that guide her actions. Despite setbacks and her nemesis Alyse joining the mission, Lily perseveres, culminating in a confrontation with the Sentinels and the kidnapping of Alyse. Lily must decide whether to trust her instincts and face her fears in this high-stakes battle for power and survival. Lily, feeling like a failure and fearing dismissal from Vestige, takes a team to rescue Jasper from the Sentinels based on Alyse's information. It's a death trap, and they're killed. Alain (actually Jasper), wearing the powerful Arbre de Vie pendant, miraculously revives Lily after she encounters the Creator. Chosen as the next Protector, Lily gains supernatural abilities. She brings her team back to life and confronts the Vestige board, discovering Alyse's betrayal goes deeper. The board punishes Alyse and her father. Alain is restored to his family as Jasper. Lily, preparing to return home, realizes she doesn't want to leave. She receives a note from Mr. Flea, acknowledging something between them. In the last chapter, Marc Coupier, the tutor of Lily and her cousins, invites Lily and the girls to view his paintings. She realizes she cares for him romantically. Marc turns out to be the painter-boy she met on a previous mission (from the novel's opening scene). He declares his love, asks her to stay, and they kiss.
