Books containing: Child Abuse

Books in this list contain depictions of child abuse — physical, emotional, or sexual harm to children within the narrative.

Child abuse in fantasy appears in multiple forms: physical violence inflicted on children by caretakers or institutions, emotional abuse within families, neglect that endangers minors, and in some adult titles, sexual abuse of children rendered with varying degrees of directness. It overlaps with child harm and emotional abuse warnings. The depiction ranges from brief references in backstory to sustained engagement with the experience and its long-term effects. Survivor protagonists are not uncommon, particularly in adult fantasy.

This is among the most difficult content categories in the genre. Survivors come to this filter for opposite reasons. Parents and caregivers may also use it on behalf of younger readers. The content rating and age recommendation on each book card give additional specific information about how directly and graphically this content is rendered. You know yourself. You do not need to justify your choice in either direction.
