Synopsis

Eleanor Vale dies on an ordinary night in a crowded basement, surrounded by strangers who do not see her fall. When she opens her eyes, she isn’t in a hospital or a dream. She stands barefoot on black stone in a silent chamber she has never seen before. Four figures sit behind a cold table. They speak her name, weigh her life, and decide she will return to the world she came from. But the world she returns to is not the same. A presence begins to follow her through the quiet, pressing against the edges of her life. The border between the living and the dead starts to shift, and Eleanor can feel its pull. She isn’t the first to cross that border. Others have carried something back with them. The Committee that judged her is still watching, and what followed her home is patient. To survive, Eleanor must face what she carries and the weight of what she’s lost, even as the border calls her back. This is a story of death and what remains, of grief that refuses to stay hidden, and of one woman caught between the world she lives in and the one that wants her back.
