Synopsis

Most captains would have turned away. When the crew of the cargo vessel Ares encounters a region of space where the stars simply stop, Captain Rex Dexter does what he has always done when faced with a mystery: he points the ship toward it. Beyond the darkness lies the Rent, an impossible place whispered about in old spacer legends. A place where ships disappear, instruments fail, and the normal rules of the universe seem to have been forgotten. Following a signal that should not exist, Rex and his crew venture deeper than anyone in recorded history. What they find is older than civilization. Older than stars. Perhaps older than the universe itself. As the Ares explores vast structures hidden within the oldest darkness in existence, the crew uncovers the fate of those who came before them and a mystery that has waited an unimaginable span of time for someone curious enough to ask the right questions. But every answer comes with a cost, and the longer they remain inside the Rent, the harder it becomes to leave. Into the Abyss is a stand-alone Rex Dexter adventure featuring exploration, mystery, ancient cosmic wonders, strange civilizations, and the crew of the Ares .
