Synopsis

Anyone can sell a black cat to a witch. But a flaming reptile with a penchant for arson? That takes some finesse. While most country boys don't dream too far beyond their fenceposts, Will Henderson doesn't believe in limiting dreams by location. And certainly not by species, either. He knows too well that even the wildest and most ornery magical creatures can become incredible Familiars. So when his chance finally arrives to open his own Familiar Emporium, Will doesn't hesitate to pack up his humble life- and the local undead Ghost Dog- and head for the big city. But moving to such a sprawling metropolis doesn't only mean a shocking change of scenery for Will. It means leveling up his Familiar Handler abilities at last, unlocking access to the portals of adventure, and gathering the very oddest Familiars for his ever-growing shop. Here's hoping that city life doesn't eat him alive in the process. Or the dragons. Those definitely bite.

Is The Unfamiliar Familiar Emporium appropriate for my child?

Suitable for most readers 10 and up.

Will's adventures managing magical creatures in the big city involve mild fantasy peril (dragons that bite, unruly familiars) but maintain a lighthearted tone. The undead Ghost Dog and mentions of arson-prone creatures are played for humor rather than scariness.
