Escape fantasy books
Get out. Stay out. Don't look back. Probably look back.
A prison, a marriage, a kingdom, a curse — escape stories run on momentum and ingenuity. The protagonist has to plan, improvise, recover from setbacks, and bet on the right allies. The pleasure is partly procedural — watching a tight plan unfold — and partly emotional, because the thing being escaped tells the reader something fundamental about who the protagonist is becoming.
A staple of adventure fantasy, romantasy with captive arcs, and dystopian speculative. Pairs with on-the-run plots, reluctant alliances, and reveals about what the protagonist is escaping toward. Plays across every age tier. For readers who love the moment a locked door becomes a door.
